That to me is one of the really strong selling points of AD, the programming is just excellent, to the point where a lot of the MIDI files sound like sample loops from real players. I downloaded some of the Groove Monkey MIDI files, and while there was some usable stuff, the programming wasn't nearly as musical and detailed as those from AD. There are also quite a few presets available (premixed kits) which can also then be customized to your requirements. But the mixing capabilities and effects mean that you can radically alter the sounds of the kits if so desired. You can mix up the kits however you choose, with, eg, a Tama kick, a DW snare and toms made up from 3 different kits if that's what you want! They also have an add on pack with 3 classic Ludwig kits at extra expense.

I don't have to touch them up as much as I have had to with EZ.ĮZ is very limited sound wise out of the box, you need to invest in a few expansions to get the most out of it.Įverything in the full version is a continuation of the quality of the demo, just lots more of it! Over 3,000 MIDI files and a few full kits, with a couple of extra kicks, snares and cymbals on top of the complete kits. OF course you can get the arena rock sound too, but I like its ability to sit mix wise. Perhaps I am just tired of the toontrack sound, but AD to me is more like a real miced kit, when you solo the kick and snare, it sounds more like my drums do when I record them, which to me, in the end lends to a more natural sound. I pretty much have all the expansions for EZ, the nashville one is nice, but to me, the AD drums sit in the mix so much better most of the time. It is a very distinguiable sound to me, like I said, EZ sounds great, but after using it for 2 years, and now using Addictive drums, AD gets way more use from me.
Sure you can use the mixer in EZ drummer to raise and lower room sounds etc, but it has its toontrack sound, no matter what you do. Nice fills thoughĪs far as tweakablility with both, Addictive drums is better. The variations that come with ez drummer are very small, like grooves 1-40 will sound pretty much identical except an extra kick here, extra hat there, pretty dissapointing when trying to get variation.
